Glove Anaesthesia

Use the non-dominant hand for this exercise. For the ease of the script we will assume that your client is right handed.

Take the client into trance and concentrate on their left hand, which is hanging down at their side. Spend some time talking about this hand, how it is useful, what sort of things it is used for; how often we use the hand; how all the cells in this hand have so many memories - cell memories they are called.

Memories of heat and cold ....... Memories of winters when it has been so very cold that the fingers and the hand were quite numb ...... Pleasant memories of playing with snow ...... making snow balls, snowmen, sledges etc, etc (PAINT PICTURES) ...... picking up a handful of snow ...... and if we do that often enough, we lose all feelings in the hand and fingers ...... and we have memories of cold water ...... we can imagine the left hand being in a bucket of ice cold water ...... Very cold because there are lumps of ice floating in the water ...... and we can imagine how very cold it feels and the hand becomes numb with cold ...... more and more ...... no feelings in the little finger ...... no feelings in the thumb and other fingers ...... no feeling in the hand at all ...... quite numb and insensitive.

DON'T RUSH THIS, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BUILD A PICTURE OF THE HAND IN ICE COLD WATER AND GIVE YOUR CLIENT TIME TO ACCESS THEIR MEMORIES. YOU COULD EVEN USE MEMORIES OF BEING INJECTED WITH ANAESTHETIC AND THE BODY BECOMING ANAESTHETISED PROVIDED THE CLIENT IS NOT NEEDLE PHOBIC.

In a few moments in time I am going to count from one to three and as I count slowly from one to three your hand will become more and more numb ...... completely insensitive, no feelings at all ...... completely without any feelings ONE: colder and colder, more and more numb. TWO: colder still ...... your hand and fingers are completely numb ...... completely without feelings just as though they have gone to sleep. THREE: your hand is completely numb, no feelings at all now ...... in a few moments I am going to pinch the back of your RIGHT hand and when I do so you will feel the pinch, it won't bother or disturb you, but you will feel me pinch the back of your RIGHT hand.

(NOW PINCH THE HAND, JUST ENOUGH FOR THEM TO BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING)......

Now I am going to pinch the back of your left hand ...... but since your left hand is completely numb and without feeling you will experience no discomfort at all.

(NOW PINCH THE LEFT HAND, IF ANAESTHESIA IS PRESENT THERE WILL BE NO REACTION. AFTER A FEW MOMENTS IT IS NECESSARY TO RESTORE ALL SENSITIVITY AND NORMAL FEELINGS TO THE LEFT HAND).

In a few moments;' time as I am talking to you all sensitivity and normal feelings of warmth and comfort will return to your left hand, soon I will count from One to Three and as I do so, all sensitivity and normal feelings will return to your left hand ......I will now count to three and by the count of three you can open your eyes, take a deep breath, stretch and notice how good you feel.

Transference of Anaesthesia
Regardless of the method used to produce analgesia, it must be transferred from the back of the hand to the jaw, abdomen or wherever it is required  This can be done by merely stroking the affected area with the hand or just holding the hand on it and telling the client that the numbness will transfer from their hand into the complete area which they need to anaesthetise.

Give 'failsafe' suggestions eg - " If any abnormal pain is experienced during your operation / childbirth etc you will become aware of it immediately and be able to tell the doctors/nurses etc what you are experiencing.

ALWAYS REMEMBER TO REMOVE THE ANALGESIA AFTER TREATMENT. TEACH CLIENT SELF-HYPNOSIS AND ENSURE THAT THEY PRACTICE THE ABOVE REGULARLY PRIOR TO THEIR SURGERY, SO THAT THEY CAN INDUCE IT AT WILL, EASILY AND EFFORTLESSLY, WHEN IT IS REQUIRED.
